What does it mean to alkalize your body? Is there a way to quickly alkalize your body? You may have heard about being alkaline or acidic and are wondering how to alkalize your body. This information will help you understand more about what this means. Disclosure: I sometimes receive compensation from the companies whose products I review. The following article may contain affiliate links. The opinions expressed here are my own.
When someone says they want to be more alkalized, they mean that they want the pH of their body to be more alkaline rather than acidic. Typically your body is constantly working to maintain equilibrium at a pH of 7.365, which is slightly alkaline.
When your body is said to be in an acidic state, you can experience body pains, inflammation, excess body weight and other illness. You may be in an acidic state due to the food you eat. Diets that are high in sugar, meat, trans fats, and chemical additives lead many to be in this acidic state.
Excessively acid diets can also lead to tissue and organ damage, joint pain. When you are in an excessively acidic state, your body is unable to heal.
There was a 2014 study tracked the diets of over 66,000 women over a time span of 14 years. The study was published in 2014 in Diabetologia, and showed that the ones that had a more acidic diet had an increase in having type 2 diabetes during the study. They concluded that having a low vegetable, high acidic diet has a high correlation of developing metabolic syndrome.
When your has an excessively acid condition of the body fluids or tissues, the condition is called acidosis.
AM I TOO ACIDIC?
Acidosis is very damaging and reduces your body’s ability to heal and detoxify. When in this state, a person will be more likely to get illnesses and diseases The most frequent ailments of acidosis are:
- Stomach digestion problems
- Poor immune system
- Heart problems
- Low energy
- Osteoporosis – Low bone density
- Weight gains and losses – being over and under weight
- Difficulty breathing, at rest or during very light exercise
- Weak, thin hair and nails
If you suffer from any of these ailments, please consult your doctor. Regardless of what the outcome is, I am confident they will agree that a healthier diet may help alleviate your symptoms.

HOW TO ALKALIZE YOUR BODY?

- Wheat Grass
- Green Beans
- Sweet Potatoes
- Beets Sprouts
- Green Pepper
As much as possible, try choose organic fruits and vegetables. Now more than ever, many nutritional experts know that the condition of the soil that plants are grown in can negatively change their vitamin and mineral content. Studies show that not all alkaline foods are grown equally. Vegetables and fruits that are grown in organic, mineral-dense soil show to be more alkalizing.
The best way to ensure that you are getting organic food is to grow it yourself. If you have ever considered starting a vegetable garden, here is a great reason to do so. It may surprise you how much you enjoy it.
Ideally your soil will have a pH between 6 and 7. Soils with a pH below 6 commonly have less calcium and magnesium. Soil above a pH of 7 tend to be lacking iron, manganese, copper and zinc. To ensure that you soil is healthiest it can be, make sure that it its well tilled, and organically conditioned.
GREEN JUICE RECIPES
One of the best way to ensure you are getting enough healthy, alkalizing vegetables is by having a green juice. One of my favorite green juice recipes is
Delicious Green Alkalizing Juice Recipe
- 1 Granny Smith Apple
- 6 Leaves of Green or Red Leaf Lettuce
- 3 Leaves of Escarole
- 3 Leaves of Endive
- 2 Leaves of Swiss Chard
- 2 Leaves or 2 square inch cube of Red Cabbage
- 1 Green Bell Pepper
You put them into a juicer, to get all the alkalizing juices out. If you don’t have a juicer already, I highly recommend Omega J8006 Nutrition Center Masticating Dual-stage Juicer Juice Extractor. It is known as a “low speed” juicer, which is what you want. The idea is that the slower speeds preserve the nutrients. I’ve had mine for about 3 years now, and have used it almost every single day. They are available at Amazon.com
Another alkalizing juice recipe I enjoy
Simple Alkalizing Juice
- 3 carrots
- 2 cucumber
- ¼ head cabbage
- 1 cup spinach
- ½ lemon
I usually serve all of my juices over ice, but you may prefer to drink room temperature. Either way, be sure to drink it your juice as soon as you make it, unfortunately they lose their effects if they sit in the refrigerator, so you can not make a big batch ahead of time.
For alkalizing drinks on the go, you may want to try drinking alkaline water. These have a pH of 9.5 or above. Although I generally follow a predominantly plant based diet, I am not a vegan. If I am going to have an acidic meal, I drink one or 2 glasses of high pH alkaline water. This extra boost keeps my alkalized.
If you would like to test your pH level, you can get strips at Amazon.com. You use these strips to test the pH level of your saliva or urine. They are easy to use. When I wake up in the morning, I spit on a spoon, then dip one of the test strips into the saliva. Then you compare the color of the test strip to a chart that is provided in the kit, and it tells you your body’s pH level. I try to stay between 6.8 and 7.2.
